Robotics, Mechatronics and Design Portfolio by Jack Marley McIntyre
Welcome to Machatronics!
This website is a portfolio of my work in engineering, research, development & project management. I’ve also included some of my experience during my studies in computer, electronic, robotic and mechatronic engineering undertaken during my time as an Undergraduate and as a STEM Ambassador/Mentor.
This website also details a bit about myself with my love of 3D design, Travel and Music!
Currently working as an Engineering Research Associate with the University of the Highlands and Islands Inverness Campus. My current responsibilities involve project managing 3 projects within Engineering Technology & UHI Inverness:
Circular Economy in Engineering Technology, A project I developed which aims to migrate Engineering Technology within UHI towards a circular economy framework and produce valuable data on the carbon footprint of the curriculum, campus and individuals. This has involved GHG protocol research, ISO 14064 development and developing connections in local renewable and green research organisations.
Hydro Ness Scaled, a collaboration project between UHI and Highland Council to create a scaled representation of the Hydro Ness power plant that can be 3D printed and produced for awards and schools. This has been used as the basis to jump start UHI Inverness’ Additive Manufacturing Suite.
STEM Equity in the Highlands, using my prior stem background, I am representing UHI Engineering Technology in STEM projects around the highlands including, leading and producing outreach projects such as collaborations with SDS, Diageo, Lifescan & more, acting as compere at Inverness Science Week, and giving guest lectures and in school workshops.
Prior to my position as Engineering Research Associate, I was the University of the Highlands and Islands first KTP Research Associate which started in December 2019. I was involved in the design and development of a low power electronic deterrence system for conservation factors which covered; electronic design, programming, 3D modelling, manufacture, procurement, project management and field testing as part of a 1 person team over the Covid-19 Pandemic into 2022.
My position also allowed me to work within two emerging colleges in the Highlands (Inverness College and Moray College) with extensive travel being routinely undertaken to on-site locations in Royal Deeside (Braemar & Ballater) and throughout the Highlands (Sutherland, Caithness, Torridon, etc.)
Prior to returning to academia, I was a Design Engineer and Product Engineer with Entrotec in Livingston, Scotland from October 2017 to November 2019. With Entrotec, I was part of a team of innovative and specialist design engineers while also having the flexibility to conceptualise, design, produce and bring new products to market. Likewise, there I expanded my skills with ventures into 3D engineering design and 3D Rendering.
Before Entrotec, I studied towards my Bachelor Honours of Engineering in Computer and Electronic Systems Engineering, eventually becoming an honours alumnus of Glasgow Caledonian University in the specialization of Robotics and Mechatronics of which only myself and one other student graduated from in the summer of 2017.
My work experience during this time ranged from a number of different professions. These ranged from work with; DHL in Customer Integration Support, a 10 week robotics research and training internship at Hochschule Merseburg (Germany) and finally my work as a STEM ambassador/mentor with Glasgow Caledonian University working on projects such as Smart Stems and Routes for All.
