Welcome to Machatronics!

This website is a portfolio of my work in the engineering design sector and my studies in computer, electronic, robotic and mechatronic engineering undertaken during my time as an Undergraduate and as a STEM Ambassador/Mentor.

Included is examples of work, employer testimonials and various areas of previous training.

I hope you enjoy your time at Machatronics.com

A Brief Outline Of My Work

I am currently working with the National Trust for Scotland and the University of the Highlands and Islands as UHI’s first KTP Research Associate (Electronic Technologies) in Inverness, Scotland since December 2019. With InnovateUK and KTP Centre North, I am working on an exciting and innovative project with UHI Inverness and Moray Colleges and NTS’ Mar Lodge Estate to overcome conservation issues using an engineering and design approach.

This involves many facets of engineering design including; PCB design with Eagle, 3D modelling with Solidworks/AutoCAD and programming in C and MatLAB. Coupled with design is also a great emphasis on field testing and academic research which is a fantastic new addition to my work life!

Previously, I was a Design Engineer and Product Engineer with Entrotec in Livingston, Scotland from October 2017. With Entrotec, I was part of a team of innovative and specialist design engineers while also having the flexibility to conceptualise, design, produce and bring new products to market. Likewise, there I expanded my skills with ventures into 3D engineering design and 3D Rendering.

Before Entrotec, I studied towards my Bachelor of Engineering in Computer and Electronic Systems Engineering, eventually becoming an honours alumni of Glasgow Caledonian University in the specialization of Robotics and Mechatronics of which only myself and one other student graduated from in the summer of 2017.

My work experience during this time ranged from a number of different professions. These ranged from work with; DHL in Customer Integration Support, a 10 week robotics research and training internship at Hochschule Merseburg (Germany) and finally my work as a STEM ambassador/mentor with Glasgow Caledonian University working on projects such as Smart Stems and Routes for All.

As previously mentioned, I developed a passion for STEM education, outreach and presentations. I subsequently organised and provided Robotics workshops and helped students consider their options post-secondary school. At Entrotec, that passion continued as I organised engagement with the local academic community and continued some of the work I have previously accomplished in STEM outreach, successfully participating as a judge in the West Lothian Stem Olympics and various STEM fairs.

This website will also talk about the various skills which I have both gained and expanded upon during my work and education. These range from engineering skills such as; C and C++ programming, Labview programming, electrical circuit design, product design to softer skills like; presentation skills, communication skills and teaching skills.
